School based training

For Schools & Teachers

We deliver Bikeability training at around 70 schools in Chesterfield, NE Derbyshire and Bolsover and are commisioned by SHAPE Learning Partnership in Chesterfield & NE Derbyshire and Bolsover Active Schools Network in the Bolsover area.

Our current programmes offered are:

Balance bike training for 'reception' children

Learn to ride training for year 3 or 4 children

Bikeability Level 1 training for year 3 or 4 children

Bikeability Level 2 training for year 5 or 6 children

Bikeability Level 3 training for year 6 and above

(note that each area has different funding and may not offer the full programme, schools can use their 'sports premium' to fund directly if Bikeability funding isn't available)

We welcome feedback at all times, when training is finished we will email you this feedback form.

If your school already receives training delivered by us we will contact you at the appropriate time each year.

We welcome enquiries from school not yet receiving training from us. All schools  whether affiliated to a partnership or not can access Bikeability.

For Parents & Carers

Bikeability is cycle training for the 21st Century delivered in line with the national cycling standards by qualified  and experienced instructors.

For Levels 1, 2 & 3 you will receive a letter from school explaining what happens during training and a consent form for you to return to school. We must have written consent before any child takes part.

Balance bike training takes place in the school hall and is similar to a PE lesson so no consent is asked for.

Borrowing helmets and bikes:

We always have 6 spare helmets available per group for Level 1, 2 & 3. The consent letter for Levels 2 & 3 asks if you need to borrow one. We don't use helmets for balance bike training.

Bikes - for Level 1 we always take 5 spare bikes per session. For Level 2 you can request to borrow a bike here. For Level 3 riders need to be competent and use their own bike.
